About Us

History

The Torch Club of Frederick was founded on October 24, 1994, by a group of far-sighted individuals who believed that our community was the perfect location for a nonpolitical group dedicated to an increase in understanding through the convivial exchange of ideas. With more than sixty members, the Frederick club is now the second largest among the International Association of Torch Clubs.

The first Torch Club was inaugurated in Minneapolis in 1924 as “a fellowship of the learned professions.” As new professions emerged, Torch Clubs expanded to include “members from other disciplines pursued by a person in a recognized professional manner.” Today, Torch Clubs are part of the Torch International, a nonprofit corporation that provides services to its member clubs in the United States and Canada.
